The Civil Administration today (Sunday) unveiled a new archeological discovery from the Hasmonean period - a lead sling bearing the name of Tryphon, the ruler of Seleucid, who fought in the Hasmonean house.
The find, discovered at the Tel Zif site in the southern Hebron Mountains, is about three centimeters long, and clearly shows a Greek inscription bearing the name of the ruler Tryphon, who ruled the Seleucid kingdom between 145-138 BC.
In addition, the slingshot also contains the symbol of Zeus, the Greek god.

An archeology staff officer at the Civil Administration, Hanania the Entrepreneur, said he welcomes the disclosure of the findings.
"We continue to discover new finds that are another tier of the rich history that took place in the Judea and Samaria area hundreds and thousands of years ago," he said.
"The Civil Administration will continue to work tirelessly to preserve and expose the archeological sites and national heritage and cultural assets throughout Judea and Samaria."
