The Ministry of Health stressed the need for citizens to adhere to preventive measures from wearing a mask, maintaining spatial distance as much as possible and avoiding crowded places, especially since determining the effectiveness of vaccines and treatments against the new mutant recently discovered in South Africa needs several weeks, according to the World Health Organization.
The ministry stated in a statement that SANA received a copy of it that it is following around the clock the epidemiological situation of the Corona virus locally and globally, especially with the World Health Organization’s announcement that the mutant discovered in South Africa (Omicron) contains a large number of mutations, some of which are alarming, with preliminary evidence of an increase Risk of reinfection and faster rates of infection.
The Ministry renewed its call for all people over the age of 18 to receive the effective, safe and free anti-Coronavirus vaccine, especially with its availability in 967 centers and hospitals and through 200 mobile teams in villages and areas where there are no health centers.
The Ministry stressed that the initiative to take the vaccine is an individual and societal responsibility in which every person contributes to protecting himself, his family and his surroundings from infection and from serious complications that sometimes lead to death.
The World Health Organization had stated before the emergence of the new mutation that the information it received about the effectiveness of the vaccine against most mutations was reassuring and that three things could be done to counter the mutations, namely (conducting more studies to understand it, giving people more doses of the vaccine and working to modify some of the preparations of these vaccines, as is applied regarding Influenza vaccination every year.
