Former Israeli artistic gymnastics coach Ira Vigdorchik has been appointed head coach of Russia's artistic gymnastics team and will lead it ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Vigdorchik is already in Moscow and has in fact concluded her contract with the powerful woman in Russian gymnastics, Ira Wiener.
Russia drew conclusions from the failure at the Tokyo Olympics last summer, where they finished second behind Bulgaria.
Wiener decided that Vigdorchik was best placed to restore the status of Russians in the industry.
For Russia, winning the silver medal was considered a great failure, which was also intensified by the loss of the gold medal to Linoy Ashram in the individual competition.
The loss of sisters Dina and Arina Avrina to Linoy Ashram reached as far as the corridors of power in Moscow, and even drew harsh statements against the verdict on the part of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
For the 57-year-old Vigdortsik, who led Israel's gymnastics team to 6th place in the finals in Tokyo, this is a soup and prestigious appointment.
This concludes the episode of Vigdorchik, whose contract with the Gymnastics Association ended after Tokyo, due to a very difficult relationship and reciprocal statements under the belt between the parties.
As early as the spring of 2022, Israel will host the European Championships, and Russia is expected to perform here under the guidance of Vigdorchik.
