On the starting line: The moment of truth of the nuclear talks with Iran is approaching Israel today

2021-11-28T17:59:45.811Z

Representatives of the powers will meet with Iranian regime envoys for another round of talks on the US return to the nuclear deal • Just before the start of negotiations, Tehran clarifies that the removal of sanctions is at the forefront

The moment of truth for the powers in the face of the regime of Iran's extremist president Ibrahim Raisi and the regime of the ayatollahs will come today when their representatives will meet with the Iranian delegation in Vienna.

The deciding factor in the talks, USA, will not be in the room at all and will rely on intermediaries.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bakri Kani, who arrived earlier this week with dozens of others from Iran, stated on arrival that the goal was to remove the sanctions imposed on his country since the US withdrawal, ie also non-nuclear sanctions that the US could impose even if it stayed. .

If that's not enough he wants a mechanism to verify their removal, something that was not in the previous agreement and is unlikely to survive even if Biden agrees to it.

The U.S., whose representatives will be nearby - perhaps at the U.S. consulate next to the compound - but not in talks, has been pessimistic in recent weeks about being able to resume implementation of the agreement because of Iran's galloping enrichment project.

The talks will be held at the Palais Coburg Hotel next to Theodor Herzl Square, unlike previous rounds in the past year, and in fact returned to where the rounds of the original agreement were in 2015. Officially Austria is the one determining the location, but Iranian pressure is likely to change: Opponents of the regime will be relatively far from the hotel itself, to the delight of the butcher from Tehran.

One of the opponents is Goley, a Kurdish taxi driver who lives in Vienna.

She says she and others in the Kurdish community "hate Iran" because of the regime's attitude toward active demonstrations.

"They kill them, put them in jail."

A reminder of the regime's violent treatment of protesters (this time not Kurds but farmers) we have only received in recent days at water demonstrations in Iran.

Another taxi driver, from Turkey, does not get excited when I tell him about what is happening in the city.

He said Iran was not hated in the news anyway and in the Middle East as well.

"Relations with Turkey are 50/50," he said.

Police officers are already stationed in front of the hotel.

At least one policeman is on guard.

Even a mobile occasionally arrives.

The checkpoints are ready to be deployed and everyone who enters the hotel straight away approaches him and asks what he is looking for.

The restaurant in the hotel, which is considered particularly prestigious, is closed (also to Takeaway). A carriage with horses also passes opposite, as in those days in Vienna.

The media complex is ready and in fact spread over almost every Herzl Square, which means leaving a small and remote place for the protesters who may come. An Arab media reporter from a country with no ties to us (the name of the country is reserved) arrived with a photographer and did a video report ahead of the event. He was not frightened when I told him I was from Israel. He actually added, as if wishing by tone and smile, that he had heard that Israel was preparing to bomb Iran if necessary.

The big question is whether the US is already preparing for "Option B" in the event of the failure of the talks. There is also the question of whether the US will agree to an interim understanding, ie a partial lifting of sanctions in exchange for a partial implementation of the agreement by Iran. Obama - "longer and stronger" as Biden has repeatedly promised - is the only option he has if he wants something to run on him in the foreign field after the humiliation in Afghanistan.

At the corner of the street parallel to Herzl Square and the call complex is the Sotheby's Auction House.

Today we will know if Iran's unfounded demands are just the opening price or will be diluted like the snow that falls in Vienna and immediately melts.
