Virgil Abelou, Louis Vuitton's men's fashion designer and founder of the world's most successful fashion brand Off White, died today (Sunday) of cancer at the age of 41.
The news of his death was posted today on the LVMH brand corporation's Twitter page.
Abelou, a fashion designer and artistic director, grew up in Chicago's neighborhoods and reached the pinnacle of his career as the artistic director of the men's line of the French fashion brand and reputed Louis Vuitton.
In recent years, he has been battling cancer, LVMH reported.

"We are shocked to hear the terrible news," the official statement said.
"Virgil was not only a genius designer, but he was a visionary with a wonderful, wise and great soul."
"Virgil was motivated by his dedication to his craft and mission to open doors to others and create pathways to greater equality in art and design. He often said, 'All I do is for the 17-year-old version of myself,' out of a deep belief in the power of art to inspire Inspiration for future generations. "

Abel was also known as the best friend of rapper and musician Kenya West, who supported him throughout his career and made sure to wear his designs and so did his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian West.
