Opinion | "Settlers" are not the enemy Israel today

2021-11-28T21:29:55.444Z

In recent months, "settler violence" has become a code name intended to become a fait accompli • Even a brief Google search will yield dozens of pages of position papers under this heading • When I see a well-orchestrated campaign, I wonder who it serves

The life I do not know my blood.

I realized he was among the most prominent protesters in Balfour, and that he boasted the title of "Left Activist."

Last week, he gave a purposive view of where the camp that ostensibly advocates humanism and opposes violence is capable of deteriorating: in a speech full of pathos, shining eyes and abysmal hatred, Shadmi called on the government to give him weapons that would be directed at "settlers," in other words. This was accompanied by stormy applause from those present at the debate, which was convened in the Knesset under the stressful headline: "Stop the settlers' violence."

The conference, which was organized by MKs from Meretz, Labor and the joint list, took place the day after Eliyahu Kay Hayad was assassinated in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Irony was also invited to the conference, but common sense, morality and brotherhood were absent.

In recent months, "settler violence" has become a code name aimed at becoming a fait accompli.

A brief Google search will yield dozens of pages of position papers under this heading, produced by organizations such as Yesh Din, HRW, Peace Now or the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

When I see a well-orchestrated campaign, the first question I ask is: Who is it serving?

Who has an interest in portraying the residents of the localities beyond the Green Line as potential terrorists by virtue of being?

Who wants to forget about the Israeli public Who is Israel's real enemy?

I would like to give you a glimpse into the routine of a resident of one of these localities, who travels daily on the roads, and knows that there are hours when it is not recommended to drive near a school in Luban a-Sharqiya, because the chance of snatching a stone is 50 percent. Once a Jew tries to defend himself, battalions of foreign-funded Palestinian photographers await him, documenting the "settler violence" and distributing the videos everywhere.

Who benefits from the fact that the residents of the settlement become illegitimate? Sadly, the people who are interested in this are currently sitting around the cabinet table. And what will happen on the day when it is not Naftali Bennett sitting at the head of the table, but Yair Lapid? The same Lapid who wrote in 2006, after the deportation from Gush Katif: "Why was it so urgent and important for the State of Israel to evacuate Gaza? I want to propose a theory: it was not in spite of the settlers, but because of them. Hello, to the relative exhaustion of the IDF or to any of the explanations given to us. The motive was completely different: it was due to the violation of the delicate balance that existed between the settler society and the Israeli society. "

The lesson is not taught enough.

After all, Lapid and his camp have a monopoly on democracy, as is well known, and especially on "normalcy."

And what is less normal, in the eyes of the progressive camp, than people who insist on adhering to values and believe in complete faith in the righteousness of the way, since the way was paved by divine command?

The campaign against the "settlers" is the tip of the iceberg.

The next step may be much broader.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
