The Minister of Transportation, Merav Michaeli, abstained today (Sunday) in a vote held in the government, in which the appointment of Amir Peretz as chairman of IAI was approved. Apart from Michaeli, Ministers Zandberg and Horowitz also abstained.
A statement from Minister Michaeli said: "Our government comes after a government that has severely damaged the gatekeepers and therefore we have a special responsibility in strengthening them. I read carefully the decision of the committee responsible for approving the appointments. Very strong for the defense minister in charge of the company. Such a strong affiliation, that according to the attorney general's office, it takes one to three years to sever it. "Therefore, it is appropriate that this decision should not have reached the government for a vote."

Michaeli went on to say: "As someone who supported Peretz many times in the past until he chose to enter the Netanyahu government together with Blue and White, a decision I fought with all my might, I have a connection to his problematic political affiliation, as I strongly opposed it, so I decided to abstain. Meretz ministers joined me. "
Peretz's appointment was delayed after the senior appointments committee disqualified him from running for chairman of IAI. The Movement for Quality of Government condemned Peretz's appointment and said:
Political appointments of associates are a bad omen in Israeli politics and this is not how a change government behaves.
"The Minister of Finance Lieberman's threats against the committee members and his calls for their resignation are a shame."
