Kenya's security agencies announced today (Sunday) that an Iranian citizen, named Muhammad Said Gulbi, has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in terrorist activities in the country against local and Israeli elements.
This was reported in the Kenyan news newspaper STAR.
According to the report, Golby is suspected of visiting Kenya and other countries in the region in order to promote terrorist activity.
Police sources told the local media in Kenya that a detention had been carried out after Golby and some of his local acquaintances and they were convinced that there was a connection between him and terrorist activity.
A senior Kenyan police counterterrorism officer commented on the situation and told the STAR news site that the police authority "has his profile and the list of contacts he had. We have enough reason to believe he worked with terrorist organizations".
The report further states that Gulbi, who is suspected at this stage of being an officer in Iranian intelligence, is working with a group of local Kenyans to gather intelligence against private and governmental organizations in order to attack them.
In a separate incident reported last month in the media in Israel and around the world, it was claimed that the Mossad had succeeded in thwarting a series of attacks against Israeli targets throughout Africa.
Security forces in Tanzania and Ghana have reportedly arrested five suspected members of a cell operated by the Iranian Quds Force.
The suspects, citizens of the countries where they were arrested, revealed in their interrogation that they were activated by a foreign entity they did not know.
Tehran was quick to deny the allegations, claiming they were "idle reports devoid of any real content."
