Kenya has identified an Iranian citizen who was involved in planning terrorist acts against local and Israeli interests in the country - the local website "Star" reported today (Sunday), citing a report by the security services in the country in East Africa. According to the report, Kenyan authorities suspect that Muhammad Said Gulabi worked for Iranian intelligence, gathering information both against private and government targets in order to plan terrorist attacks. It is not clear from the report whether he is in the country or arrested.
Gulabi reportedly collaborated with a team of Kenyan citizens linked to terrorist organizations. The report did not specify their names or organizational affiliation. "We have created a profile of him and his contacts over time. We have enough reason to believe he worked with the same terrorist groups," a senior member of the anti-terrorism unit told the newspaper. Gulabi has been described as a regular visitor to Kenya and neighboring countries.
Iran has not yet officially responded to the report, but its name has been linked to a series of terrorist plots in Africa in recent years.
In February, Israel reported on the thwarting of an attack that Iran planned to carry out against an Israeli embassy in East Africa, among other things in retaliation for the assassination of nuclear scientist Muhsin Fahirzadeh a year ago.
