The “Readers Help Help” campaign by Tölzer Kurier and Isar-Loisachbote / Geretsrieder Merkur has been supporting people in the district who are in need through no fault of their own for many years.

Among them are moving fates.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - An accident with serious consequences, a serious illness or another stroke of fate: From one second to the next, the still intact world is completely upside down.

The person concerned does not know what to do next, despair and fear of the future spread.

Fortunately, our readers are not indifferent to the suffering of their fellow human beings.

Against this background, the big fundraising campaign “readers help help” by Tölzer Kurier and Isar-Loisachbote / Geretsrieder Merkur starts again this weekend.

Last year, around 200,000 euros were raised

The two editorial offices have been working closely with social institutions, representatives of the churches, association chairmen and other multipliers for many years. The donated money - last year it was 200,471 euros - reaches the people between Icking and Jachenau who are in need through no fault of their own.

One case that recently particularly moved readers was this: the police, with the help of the public, searched for a family man from Geretsried for three days in the summer.

Then the officers had to deliver the terrible news to his wife.

The 48-year-old, who was in an exceptional psychological situation, had committed suicide.

In the last few weeks before the act of desperation, "he was feeling really bad," his wife reported in an interview with our newspaper.

He had promised her solemnly that he would contact a doctor or therapist.

After the man's suicide, there is barely enough money to cover the funeral expenses

A few days before the tragedy, “I spoke to my husband for a long time,” said the 40-year-old. “I told him that his family needed him, that his children needed him.” She had the impression that her urgent appeal got through to him. But the 48-year-old presumably had a short-circuit reaction.

The grief of the Geretsriederin and her two children was mixed with great financial worries.

The balance on the savings account was just enough for the funeral expenses, and the family car had to be sold.

At that moment came unbureaucratic help from “readers help help”.

“The money helped us tremendously,” says the 40-year-old looking back.

"All donors say a huge thank you on this way." Five months after the stroke of fate, "we are doing well under the circumstances," said the Geretsriederin.

Financially, it was possible to gain a foothold again.

“But without the very concrete help in the situation at that time?

I don't know how it would have gone for the three of us. "

People in dire need are often cared for by Caritas Barbara Starkz

People in dire need often end up in Barbara Stark's office in the Tölzer Franziskuszentrum. At Caritas she looks after people who no longer have a home or are about to lose their home. For both groups of people, "the times have become even rougher," says strengz. "There is a lack of affordable living space, the Corona rules hit people particularly hard in difficult living conditions." At the same time, they would have an increased risk of infection because, for example, they live in shared accommodation or work in jobs with an increased risk of infection.

Many of Stark's clients also run the risk of corona disease taking a bad turn because they suffer from previous illnesses or live in sick living conditions.

Food, electricity and energy - everything is becoming more expensive, “which can quickly become an existential problem with a small income.

So the pressure has increased tremendously for families, the elderly and lonely people, for people with mental illnesses and addictions, ”says Stark.

Support also means a bit of recognition and appreciation

The support from the “Readers help” campaign is very important for these people. "With the help of donations we can in individual cases cover the costs for expenses for which there is no money and there is also no legal right to social benefits, but which are urgently needed." It is possible to buy food donations and train tickets or to make additional payments Enable medication. “In addition to the money and thus the very specific help, the public attention from the newspaper also means a bit of recognition and appreciation, and the positive feedback from the readers strengthens us, the social workers and the people in need, and always touches us emotionally . And maybe every report is a drop that wears away the stone. "
