The Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong conducted a survey from June to September this year and interviewed 628 students from secondary one to tertiary level.

The survey found that with a full score of 6, the average scores of the interviewed students' self-evaluation of "self-learning ability", "empathy" and "civic responsibility" were all higher than 4 points.

Yang Zhixian, Director of Business Development of the YMCA, pointed out that the score of "Citizen Responsibility" was the highest, with an overall average score of 4.4.

Students most agree that they have “responsibility to build a sustainable future” and “responsibility to participate in social service and care for others”, reflecting that Hong Kong students generally have a good sense of civic responsibility, care about future sustainable development and agree with Responsibility to participate in social affairs.

High interest or ability in STEM

The Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong also pointed out that according to the survey results, respondents who are interested in STEM subjects and have higher abilities have higher self-assessments on "self-learning ability", "empathy" and "civic responsibility".
