The government today (Sunday) approved the acceleration of the immigration of relatives of Ethiopians to Israel.
The new immigrants will be first-degree family members who have been waiting decades for immigration.
At the same time, the government decided to appoint a special project manager who will head a team that will submit urgent recommendations regarding the eligibility of the other waiters.
"The government's decision was formulated after ongoing discussions between the Minister of Immigration and Absorption, Pnina Temano and the Minister of the Interior, Ayelet Shaked, for the immediate increase of those waiting in Ethiopia, as stated in the shadow of the fighting in Ethiopia and their growing distress," the two said.

According to Minister Shaked, along with the approval of the aliyah, the establishment of a committee was approved, "which will examine the status of those waiting and lead to the approval of those who meet the criteria, the rejection of those who do not meet, the closure of camps and a return to the Law of Return."
"We are today correcting an ongoing injustice done to those waiting for their immigration to be approved as early as 2015 but not implemented in previous governments," said Minister Tamano-Sheta.
"This is a continuation of Operation Create Israel, which aims to lead a breakthrough to end the saga, provide a real solution for those who wait too many years to come to Israel and unite with their families and be part of the people of Israel, along with striving to end the painful issue."

Sources involved in the discussions prior to the decision said that representatives of the National Security Headquarters and other security officials presented to the service an assessment of the situation, according to which the security situation in Ethiopia does not require an emergency operation to evacuate those waiting to immigrate to Israel.
However, during the discussion, security officials were instructed to prepare a plan in case there was a further deterioration in the situation in Ethiopia that would necessitate such an evacuation.
The decision to expedite their immigration is added to the evacuation of some of the families of Israeli diplomats in the country by order of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the same time, the ministry updated the travel warning to the country and wrote that citizens are advised to avoid visiting there.
"The Foreign Ministry recommends that Israeli citizens residing in Ethiopia end their stay in the country, in the face of civil unrest, disruptions and restrictions on movement and access, communications, product availability and possibly even flights," the flight warning read.
