Naarea, the bet of a disruptive technology
The reactor had been imagined to rub shoulders with the stars.
Naarea is developing a molten salt reactor, an advanced nuclear technology known as
“fourth generation”
.
All based on a model originally designed for space by CNRS research director Daniel Heuer, now a consultant for the company.
The start-up, co-founded by industrialist Jean-Luc Alexandre and polytechnician Ivan Gavriloff, is perhaps the most ambitious in the sector.
It intends to supply its reactor with thorium, unused waste from mines, and spent fuel from conventional nuclear power plants.
A patent for the reactor was filed in early 2021.
We will be the first energy company to free the planet from nuclear and mining waste
Jean-Luc Alexandre, co-founder of Naarea
"We will be the first energy company to free the planet from nuclear and mining waste, while providing an energy solution as close as possible to demand thanks to a breakthrough and unprecedented technological innovation"
, explains Jean-Luc Alexandre.
