The A89 motorway was closed this Sunday afternoon between Thiers, in Puy-de-Dôme, and Balbigny in the Loire, due to heavy snowfall since midday.
At 10 p.m., several hundred vehicles were still stranded.
Earlier in the evening, Vinci Autoroutes had proceeded to the distribution of water and food to the occupants of the cars immobilized for several hours.
Between Noirétable and the junction with the A72, Vinci evokes a “preventive” and “curative” closure in order to allow tow trucks to intervene on the motorway, indicates France Bleu Loire.
“Between Thiers and Noirétable, at the highest point of the A89 Est (600-800 m), we have already recorded more than 30 cm of snow. To cope with this exceptional event, the Massif Central district has committed all the means at its disposal to manage the event, with in particular more than forty intervention vehicles (salting and snow removal) and nearly 70 employees mobilized. This device is supplemented by the reinforcement of more than ten repair companies ”
, specifies Vinci Autoroutes in a press release, according to the Mountain.
