(Lorca Women) inaugurates the Homs Theater Festival

Homs, SANA- In the presence of a large audience, the fourth and fourth edition of the Homs Theater Festival was inaugurated on the stage of the House of Culture in Homs.

In the presence of a large audience, the Homs Theater Festival, in its twenty-fourth edition, was inaugurated today on the stage of the House of Culture, which has become a cultural and artistic value that has a profound impact on the Syrian cultural movement and a title in the theatrical movement in the city of Homs.

The festival, which is being held by the branch of the Artists Syndicate in Homs in cooperation with the Directorate of Culture and National Theater in the governorate, includes seven performances: “The Women of Lorca.. The Wedding.. The Sheep.. Professor Priest of Truth.. A Night That Didn’t Happen.. The Monodrama of Containers Without a Homeland.. In the Hole.”

The opening performance of the festival was with the play The Women of Lorca, written by Federico García Lorca and directed by Hussein Nasser, which collected the characters of four texts written by Lorca at different intervals and tells about a house overwhelmed by grief and mourning rituals after the death of the father and the attempt of some of its members to break free from this siege amid the mother's adherence to strict social customs .

In a statement to SANA, Hadi Parsley, deputy head of the Artists Syndicate, pointed out the importance of the Homs Theater Festival and the necessity of its continuity, noting the opening presentation and the performance of the actors.

Artist Reem Abdel Aziz, a member of the Artists Syndicate, pointed out that Homs and its people are a source of creativity, and they deserve to return to their city as an incubator of culture.

Amin Roumieh, head of the branch of the Artists Syndicate in Homs, considered that the Homs Theater Festival plays an important role in the cultural movement in Syria and the city of Homs in particular, indicating that in this year’s session, as in previous years, the Artists Syndicate resorted to the selection of the performances participating in the festival to the Reading and Watching Committee through rules And accurate artistic foundations to select shows that reflect the diversity of theatrical experiences and the multiplicity of visions and ideas that embody societal, artistic and intellectual issues in various ways for a number of young playwrights.

The artist Mithal Jammoul, who played the role of Bernada in the play, pointed out that Lorca Women is being shown for the third time in Homs, after it was presented for the first time as the first work of the National Theater in Homs Governorate after its creation, pointing to the importance of the participation of Homs artists and talented youth in its theater festival in front of its ancient audience and taste for art.

Actor Stefan Brechini, who played Leonardo in the show, talked about his role, as he is a young man who repeatedly tries to escape with his girlfriend out of the house of the bossy woman Bernarda.

The artist, Zenati Qudsiya, from the audience, stated that the Lorca women's show was presented today in a new look and a distinctive setting, as the focus was placed on the relations of brothers with each other and with their mother, considering that the Homs Theater Festival is one of the most important local festivals and its audience is always elegant and connoisseur of art.

On the history and importance of the Homs Theater Festival, theatrical artist Hassan Akla spoke, pointing out that it was an artistic and cultural event that began more than 30 years ago and started locally by city bands to reveal promising talents and put them in the spotlight.

At the end of the play, a discussion session was held for the presentation with the audience in order to give them the opportunity to participate and express their opinion.

It is noteworthy that the Homs Theater Festival will continue for a week on the stage of the House of Culture, and tomorrow the wedding play by the Seville Troupe will be presented.

The opening was attended by Homs Governor Bassam Parsik, its city council president Abdullah Al-Bawab, theater and music director Imad Jalloul, a number of members of the Central Council of the Artists Syndicate, and official and religious figures.
