After the scandal of his concealment of the truth, the US army opened an investigation into the Baghouz massacre

After the scandal of the US occupation army’s concealment of the reality of the massacre it committed against civilians in Syria two years ago, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was forced to announce the opening of an investigation into the massacre committed by his forces in the village of Baghouz in Deir Ezzor countryside on March 18, 2019, which resulted in the death of 64 women and children.

The New York Times quoted General Michael Garrett, Chief of Army Forces Command, as saying today that a raid carried out by a special operations unit called Task Force 9 will be investigated, and the task force will be investigated by the Military High Command and the Inspector General of the Department of Defense.

The newspaper had revealed in a report published on the 13th of this November that the US Army deliberately concealed the crime committed by its air forces near the village of Al-Baghouz by order of a secret US Special Operations unit, noting that it was a “possible war crime.”

According to the newspaper, General Garrett will have 90 days to review investigations that have already been conducted and to continue investigating reports of civilian casualties and whether there have been any laws-of-war violations and record-keeping errors.

The newspaper pointed out that a US F-15E attack plane first dropped a 500-pound bomb on a crowd of civilians in the Baghouz area, and then dropped a second 2,000-pound bomb, and then a third bomb.

At the time, the newspaper quoted an unnamed US soldier as saying that at the US Air Force’s joint operations center at Al Udeid base in Qatar, “they watched what was happening with astonishment and disbelief, because a drone filmed the strikes live.”

Since its formation from outside the Security Council in August 2014, the so-called international coalition led by the United States has committed tens of massacres against Syrians by bombing residential areas in the countryside of Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa and Hasaka, in addition to destroying infrastructure under the pretext of fighting the terrorist organization “ISIS”.
