ATS: Mountain bike routes won't be ready until 2023

The sometimes wild conflicts between mountain bikers and landowners seem to have subsided. But that's not because of an improved offer for cyclists. Because the municipal tourism company Alpenregion Tegernsee Schliersee is still working on this.

The sometimes wild conflicts between mountain bikers and landowners seem to have subsided.

But that's not because of an improved offer for cyclists.

Because the municipal tourism company Alpenregion Tegernsee Schliersee is still working on this.

District

- The Alpine region Tegernsee Schliersee (ATS) has drawn an interim status on the planned mountain bike concept for the district and given an outlook on the next stations. Most important finding: Due to the corona pandemic and lengthy discussions with property owners (we reported), the concept has been delayed. The ATS is now planning to show the first trails in the coming year and to complete the project by 2023 at the latest. This emerges from a message from the municipal tourism company.

The steering group as well as the mountain bike round table of the district, the lower nature conservation authority as well as local authorities and property owners are also involved in the concept under the direction of ATS.

Tim Coldewey, who is in charge of the project for the ATS, names the Schwarzenberg in Fischbachau, the area around the Stockeralm in Schliersee and the route from Kreuth towards Grupeck as areas for possible routes.

Possible routes: Schwarzenberg in Fischbachau, the area around the Stockeralm in Schliersee and the route from Kreuth towards Grupeck

According to Coldewey, the need for a concept has been confirmed by continuous counts of cyclists and hikers. The current mountain bike offer - mainly gravel roads - is hardly accepted and leads past the needs of the target group. Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, more and more cyclists have been pushing into nature. The rangers of the ATS and Florian Bossert, area manager Mangfallgebirge, found almost no violations of closures or reckless behavior by mountain bikers during their operations. However, ignorance would still lead to illegal trails and thus damage to nature, conflicts with property owners and disputes with hikers. A solution is needed.

Since almost all of the mountain bikers surveyed stated that they wanted to take advantage of an official offer and comply with its rules, the ATS has had initial talks with landowners since October about whose land planned routes could run.

As reported, only a quarter of those invited had recently come to Fischbachau.

The ATS will now address those affected individually.

It was clear to the municipal company from the start that they would have to "drill thick boards" for this concept, says Coldewey.

Once agreements have been reached with the property owners, the ATS will work out the details of the planned trails during on-site inspections.

By the end of the year, she will also discuss how to proceed with the steering group and the round table.
