Kempten - "Our self-made star should express love and appreciation and bring a little joy to all Kempten households during the Advent season", is how Evi Klett describes her star promotion, which is celebrating its premiere this year.

The 54-year-old teacher from Kempten, together with many helpers, associations, groups and working groups, painstakingly crafted around 25,000 cards with a star on them, which ended up in the mailboxes of almost all Kempten households at the end of November. “For me, the star is and has always been a special symbol. Even back then, he was the guide to the crib for the astrologers from the Orient. My team and I will present little "star times" in different churches and squares throughout December. So offer an impulse for reflection and reflection. "

The idea behind Evi Klett's “star time” is easy to explain. The cards, which were thrown in around 25,000 households in the city of Kempten, have a hand-made star on the front that can be removed and hung up.

But that is not all. “From December 1st to December 23rd we have a little“ star time ”almost every day, which can and wants to be a guide to God for people. For example, on December 1st, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., this is the exhibition 24 Textile Thoughts on Advent and Christmas in the Evangelical St. Matthew Church on Hochbrunnenweg. Or on December 3rd, Maria's little donkey, a reading with musical accompaniment on the Klostersteige opposite Reischmann. On December 7th, the St. Mang Music Association will play under the motto Star Time - Light of the World on the outdoor area of the Robert Schumann School in St. Mang, ”the 54-year-old explains some of the events during Advent.

All events take place either in Kempten churches or in the open air and can therefore take place in a hygienic manner even in the precarious pandemic.

There is an overview of the exhibitions, meditations, readings and devotions on the website www.sternezeit-kempten.de, which was set up especially for the campaign.

There is also a QR code on the inserted cards, under which an overview of the events can also be called up.

And how do you, as a specialist in nutrition and design, come up with an idea that requires a lot of preparation, handicrafts and organization? “In February I made around 850 hearts for seniors together with many hard-working helpers. We then presented these to the various facilities in Kempten on Valentine's Day. During the corona crisis, I felt the need and the urge to make older people happy and show that they are not alone. I was overwhelmed by the number of people who participated with self-knitted, crocheted or sewn hearts ”, Evi Klett looks back proudly.

The success in spring showed the 54-year-old that something can be done if you are energetic and creative. The handicraft teacher has been in a sabbatical year since September, i.e. a one-year professional break. “I never really wanted to travel during that time. What the pandemic would have made difficult anyway. I have been doing textile art for years and I had decided to deal with it in more detail during my time off. For example, I was given a loom and immersed myself in it. But that wasn't enough for me. I wanted to help make the world a little better and that's when the idea of “star time” came up in December, ”says the Memmingen-born woman, describing the hour of birth of the idea.

In July, she had already set up a team and was looking for people who were willing to volunteer with their handicraft skills in the "star time". In the end there were eight people who, in turn, were looking for people who were willing to support the campaign and help with tinkering. Similar to the pyramid scheme. One knows one who knows one. One thing was important to her: “This is a non-denominational idea. I am personally very involved in the Evangelical Community of Kempten, but we also have the parish community Kempten-West, the altar boys' group Maria Himmelfahrt, the Mätthauskirche Kempten or the Kolping group Heiligkreuz on board. "

If you want to be inspired by Christmas, you will find the various events at www.sternezeit-kempten.de that will take place in Kempten until December 23rd.

“Everyone is very welcome.

Especially in the current difficult situation in which loneliness and worries are once again the focus, it is important that we stick together and give each other time and love, ”concluded Evi Klett.
