That is planned.

- The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved Biontech's vaccine for vaccinating children aged five to eleven. The district of Munich is already working “intensively”, according to a press release, on the organization of vaccinations for this age group. The health department has already ordered the vaccine approved for children. The delivery for children announced at the federal level is expected to arrive on December 20. As soon as the vaccine arrives, the vaccinations will start immediately and they will be intensively promoted during the Christmas holidays.

"I am very happy that with the approval by the EMA, the vaccination and thus further protection of our children is now made possible," says District Administrator Christoph Göbel.

"I hope that as many parents as possible take advantage of this offer."

Fire brigades should help

The district is currently working on the organization of vaccination offers close to home. A central contact point is to be established for several neighboring municipalities; for example, available municipal buildings or free school rooms could be used. In addition, local paediatricians could be involved in the child vaccination campaign, and the district office is also considering reactivating retired paediatricians and other medical professionals. The District Office currently does not consider a basic processing of vaccinations for the youngest citizens via the vaccination centers to be sensible - among other things with a view to keeping waiting times as short as possible.

As a first step, the district administrative authority has already contacted all municipalities in order to find out the possibilities of local vaccination offers for five to eleven year olds and to request support from depots, voluntary fire brigades and other personnel.

The school administration should inform all parents about the district's plans as soon as possible.

The interest in the vaccination options docked at the school or institution should also be queried.

"Do everything possible to create the required framework"

"We are doing everything we can to create the necessary framework immediately," emphasizes Göbel.

"We made a conscious decision to separate these vaccinations from the established structure of the vaccination centers, on the one hand to create vaccination offers that are as close to home as possible and, on the other hand, to avoid excessive visitor numbers in the vaccination centers and on the vaccination buses - especially in increasingly wintery weather conditions."

Until the expected arrival of the vaccine specially produced for children on December 20, the vaccination teams commissioned by the district will not vaccinate children.

Vaccination with the adult vaccine from Biontech is not possible here.

The health department therefore asks all parents and legal guardians not to book any vaccination appointments for children in this age group at the moment.
