After the big farce on Saturday, this morning (Monday) it turns out that 13 players and teammates at the Portuguese football club Blanco have been found positive for the coronavirus virus omicron strain, this after one of the team's games recently returned from South Africa.
The new variant was found after Blanche played in the Portuguese league against Benfica on Saturday.
The game started when the team had only nine car players on the field, with the rest of the players forced to stay in isolation.
Benfica led 0: 7 at the half, and two minutes after the start of the second half, to which only seven Blancers players went up, the game was stopped.
"We are all in isolation except for the youth team that did not play on Saturday, 44 people are in home isolation," a club spokesman said today.
"Two or three players and two or three of the staff have symptoms, but nothing is too serious, the rest are asymptomatic. Everyone is waiting for further tests, as soon as the Ministry of Health approves it," he added.
Apparently the one responsible for importing the new strain is Blanco defender Capo Feta, who was found positive for Corona after returning to Portugal last week from the South African national team window.
Presidents Benfica and Blansense said at a news conference on Saturday that they had no choice but to hold the game or risk a penalty for "unjustified absence."
They blamed the league and the health authority for not allowing the game to be postponed.
The local health authority said it was not responding to the football game, and that it had no authority to postpone games but provide situation assessments, and implement measures such as self-isolation designed to curb the spread of the disease.
