In the so-called cyberbunker process surrounding an underground darknet data center for criminal transactions, the defendants' defense lawyers have demanded the acquittal of their client.
The 62-year-old Dutchman was neither obliged nor able to control what was offered on the servers in his data center, said lawyer Uwe Hegner on Monday in his plea before the Trier district court.
Trier - "The operation of a data center is not a criminal offense," emphasized attorney Michael Eichin.
His client must not be convicted of the "advertising claim" that his data center offers "bulletproof" services.
Eight defendants have been on trial in Trier since October 2020.
They are accused of forming a criminal organization and aiding and abetting thousands of crimes committed by their clients through illegal websites.
The bunker in Traben-Trarbach on the Moselle was dug by hundreds of police officers in autumn 2019 after five years of investigations.
