In twenty years, they have gained more than two years of life expectancy and live up to 85 years on average for women, 79 years for men. The number of centenarians, which stood at 21,000 in 2016, could soar to 270,000 in 2070… ie 13 times more! But with the arrival of the large generations from the baby boom to the "fourth age", the number of people over 85 will triple by 2050 to reach 4.8 million people.
