Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro described the European Union observers who came to his country to observe the recent municipal and local elections as "enemies and spies".
"Those who came as enemies ... the delegation of European Union spies did not find any element to criticize the electoral system," Maduro said during a speech broadcast on Venezuelan state television, according to Agence France-Presse, adding that they had failed in their mission to distort the democratic electoral process in his country.
Maduro also criticized the report of the European Union observers on the recent Venezuelan elections, saying that it was "full of improvisation and poorly written", stressing that the elections in his country were transparent, reliable, fair, secure and free, in which the Chavista achieved a landslide victory.
The Venezuelan president called on international observers to respect the national legitimacy of Venezuela and to respect the results of the municipal and local elections that were held on the 21st of this month.
