The Dachau district office found out with a survey: Families and children are suffering extremely from the Corona crisis.

Dachau - A lot has changed for everyone in the Corona crisis.

Contacts had to be reduced, schools and day-care centers were not allowed to be visited as usual, and at times children even had no opportunity to meet friends.

In order to get an insight into this special situation, the municipal education management in the district of Dachau carried out a parent survey.

Parents of children who attended a day care center or elementary school in the kindergarten / school year 2020/21 were surveyed.

1088 parents from all 16 district communities and the large district town of Dachau took part.

45.5 percent of the children of the parents surveyed attended a day-care center, 55.5 percent a primary school.

Based on the survey, the district office now wants to analyze the results and identify needs with experts from day-care centers, schools and youth social work, among others.

The results of the parent survey can be viewed on the Internet at www.landratsamt-dachau.de/bildungsmanagement.

It was noticeable that there were more disputes in the families in the Corona months.

77 percent of the families surveyed said that there had been more clashes.

31 percent of parents said that they had spent more time with their children than before the Corona crisis.

Children are very scared and often cry

In general, the emotional aspects have worsened, as the survey showed.

In many cases, the children are more afraid, cry more often, are more nervous, react more emotionally, and are less likely to concentrate.

Media behavior has also changed and usage has risen sharply, reports the education management in the Dachau district.

"70 percent of the parents surveyed stated that their children sometimes used television, YouTube or streaming services significantly more frequently during the Corona crisis." The use of computers, tablets, mobile phones or games consoles also increased, 53 percent of them Respondents confirmed this.

Of all the media, the children were mostly allowed to use the tablet on their own.

And when it comes to communicating by phone, text message or video chat, the children were in contact with their grandparents more often than with their friends.

The parents were also asked about their education, employment situation and subjective assessment of their household income.

More than half of the respondents (51 percent) said that they could live comfortably with their household income, 40 percent “got by”, and eight percent reported that they found it difficult or very difficult to get along with their household income.

33 percent of single parents have difficulties with their income.
