It was decided which leaf-bearing giant should remain and which must give way.

- Some trees in the market town are bothered, others are given a grace period.

They are only shortened and monitored regularly.

The good news for the upcoming withdrawals, however, is that new trees will be planted to compensate.

At the most recent meeting of the local and traffic planning committee, several decisions were made regarding the tree population in the area of the child care center in Fruehlingsstrasse and the old fire station.

Storm damaged tree trunks considerably

The decisive factor in this was not least a storm damage to one of the trees. A storm caused a trunk eruption this year on a linden tree in the area south of the day care center on Frühlingsstrasse. That was the trigger for the market to have all trees in the area of the crèche examined by a specialist agronomist for tree care and tree renovation. This affected a linden tree, three chestnuts and a birch in the southern outer area of the hoard, as well as three chestnuts and a linden west of the hoard along Marienstrasse. In addition, the ash trees north and south of the old fire station were examined. "The market town commissioned this study, especially with a view to road safety," emphasized Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU). He knows that tree felling is an emotional issue, he said.“But when it comes to security, you can't avoid it.” He clarified the situation: “It's similar to people. Trees live x years. But at some point it is unfortunately over. "

The appraisal revealed that two chestnuts and a linden tree had to be felled immediately along Marienstraße.

In addition, another chestnut should be preserved.

For the three trees that can no longer be saved, a substitute planting with linden trees is to be carried out.

Another linden tree can remain on the site.

But a new one will be planted next to it, which should replace it in around ten to 20 years.

Another chestnut in the area can remain for the time being.

"It has to be continuously checked for road safety and reduced every three to five years," explained Schmid.

Two chestnuts standing next to each other also remain untouched for the time being.

Two new trees of their kind will be planted between the existing trees.

Replanting as a substitute for removals

A birch also has to be felled immediately for traffic safety reasons.

"You could possibly replant a fruit tree for that," said Schmid.

There is an ash tree north of the old fire station.

As before, this must be monitored further.

However, the ash south of the old fire station is being removed for traffic safety reasons.

All these changes have now been passed in corresponding resolutions - in each case without a dissenting vote.

Ulrike Küster (Greens) emphasized that her heart bleed every time a tree was felled.

“But I think it's great that new trees are being planted for this,” she said.
