Opinion | Separation Fence: Guy Goodes Passed the Character Test Israel today

2021-11-29T11:32:50.848Z

The new national coach put aside the troubles of Maccabi Rishon LeZion, led the Israeli team to a successful start of the campaign, and proved to everyone that he "did not forget to coach" • And also: the great connection between the players, and the keys to the future

1.

There has not been a national coach who took on a position in great distress like Guy Goodes.

His first training session on Monday last week was a day after the embarrassing defeat of Maccabi Rishon LeZion to Maccabi Tel Aviv, and hours after the radio interview of chairman Yitzhak Perry. In this interview, everything was except the explicit word - "resign".

Goodes' debut day as national team coach was supposed to be a holiday, but it was not festive at all.

He entered the role with immense pressure on his shoulders and apparently with great distress in his heart.

He knew that failure in the first window would already have many interpretations.

It is likely that many others would not have withstood this enormous load.

Goodes has decided two things: he is not resigning from Rishon LeZion despite the great injury he felt, and he is making a complete separation between the team and the team.

All attention and energy is now directed to the Israeli team.

Some value him as an excellent coach, some less.

One thing is undisputed - the strong character.

Goods is concrete.

From the ignorance he came out of in his career, especially the serious injuries he went through, others would not come out.

Everyone knows that Guy is a strong guy, and that he does not move left and right.

Thanks to this he transferred so well his entry into the role of coach.

The fact that this is his debut as national coach - a very exciting event - and the fact that he comes to a successful team, were a stressful event in itself - even before everything he went through.

Goodes was able to build the separation fence.

On the way, he also proved what he said immediately after the loss to Maccabi Tel Aviv: "No one here forgot to coach." It was a great test of character, and not a simple professional test. The score is very high. He was already the former coach of Maccabi Rishon LeZion. Now maybe the orange team will also benefit from the coach's success in the national team.

2. The

fact that it is impossible to pick one clear standout for this window is also part of the team's success story.

The list of scenes in the game in Tallinn is also a measure of the team's success.

The team was led yesterday by four players with 10 points.

These figures show both sides of the team: on the one hand it has no superstar;

On the other hand, this is a very connected team, because many of its players have been running together for several years.

So it's relatively easy to put it together before a campaign.

Because of this she keeps so well (stopped her rivals on 65 points on average).

National basketball, especially during the struggle between the Euroleague and Fiba, may be a recipe for many and frequent changes. Israel in this sense is an island of stability.

Concluding note:

Already in the first window, Israel has taken a big step

towards

winning the House presidency.

However, it should be remembered that the key to continuing in the second house stage is the amount of wins and not the position in the table.

If we get to five wins at home early, we have made a big step towards the World Cup.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
