The Community of Madrid has confirmed this Monday the first case of a positive patient in the region with the omicron variant of coronavirus.

The Microbiology Service of the General Gregorio Marañón Public Hospital has sequenced and confirmed this case.

It is about a 51-year-old man who returned from South Africa on November 28 with a stopover in Amsterdam.

The General Directorate of Public Health maintains epidemiological surveillance of the close contacts of the flight that landed in Madrid from the Dutch capital.

The positive was detected by screening with an antigen test at the Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas airport.

The patient, a 51-year-old man, is with mild symptoms and in isolation while in quarantine.
