Slowly and gradually the current affairs programs have taken over the broadcast schedule, and they are busy producing endless anxieties with us.

That's how the new editions ruined our lives, and we didn't even notice.

Slowly and gradually, current affairs programs have managed to conquer almost every slot in the commercial television broadcast schedule.

Morning, noon, night, no matter when and where you fiddle - fall on a politician in a suit who complains about gagging.

With so much screen time devoted to news, then every tweet is considered "news," every spin finds a place in the lineup, every negligible event is amplified to the dimensions of "drama," and the amount of items tainted with covert advertising and overt promotion breaks records.

In fact, we are currently trapped in a television world where only news is broadcast to us and the only way out is to VOD.

Recently, there has been a heated battle between representatives of the commercial channels (Keshet 12 is at the forefront of the struggle to preserve the existing broadcast schedule) and the second authority led by Chairman Yulia Shmalov-Berkovich. During the discussions, all sorts of polls and cash flows are thrown into the air Dismiss her from office to thwart the public struggle to shorten major editions, which have expanded to more than an hour and a half.

It's clear why this is good for channels.

It is much simpler and cheaper to produce news around the clock and earn a reasonable rating with a minimum investment, however commercial TV should be far beyond.

In the background of the struggle, a new-old channel was launched last night on Channel 14. Until yesterday it was called "Channel 20", and throughout the day he nostalgically reminded us how much fun he had in the past.

At 20:00 he changed his name to "Now 14", inaugurated a huge studio in news colors of blue-red, then presented a renewed broadcast schedule that includes daily consumer programs and network, a wink to the mainstream with Shai Golden, Maggie Tabibi and Tal Gilboa (both out "Big Brother" "), An impressive number of programs presented by women, and at the height of the launch eve was also a studio interview with former Prime Minister Netanyahu.

And yet, no drastic change was felt compared to what we knew from the channel in the previous version.

Now that he has decided on his own to change his designation from a heritage channel to the "Israel News Channel", he will have the responsibility to prove that he has all the means to ensure quality and continuous news broadcasts.

Because the channel is considered to have received a license from the state for heritage broadcasts subject to a regulator, it is obligated to invest 51% of its revenue in heritage content.

At the moment the income is limited so the problem does not exist, but the trap will be created if the ratings go up and with it income will flow.

How will it cost?

The channel trusts the natural attraction of Israelis to the news and is interested in providing the public with more of these only in a more right-wing shade than the mainstream.

For years, however, the ratings of the editions have been steadily declining because we consume news on the phone and the editions in the evening do not renew anything.

On the other hand, people are still watching en masse on the news and it is unhealthy.

Due to over-consumption we got into a situation where we became addicted to the news because it helps us laugh at sketches in "Great Country", or plan our next vacation abroad, understand Facebook posts and participate in social debates. But it is also an addiction to reality where we are under constant threat The news revolves around the fear that everyone wants to kill him - from the corona, through Iran to the nervous driver looking for parking.

Over-consumption of news raises anxiety and stress, increases anger and produces sleep problems and fatigue.

So news is important, but you should internalize that overuse can be mentally dangerous.

The news ruined our lives, and we did not notice at all.
