Vienna-Sana

Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister and head of the negotiating delegation in Vienna Ali Bagheri Kani renewed Iran's determination and will to reach a fair understanding that guarantees its legitimate interests during the seventh round of negotiations between Iran and the Four Plus One Group with the aim of reviving the nuclear agreement.

During the opening session of the negotiations, Bagheri Kani said that Iran's position is consistent in the necessity of canceling all the inhuman and coercive US embargo measures imposed on the Iranian people, and that this should be a priority in the negotiations.

The head of the Iranian delegation indicated that his country has demonstrated its commitment to its commitments in practice and is determined to reach a fair understanding that guarantees its legitimate interests, stressing that it is absurd to talk about reviving the nuclear agreement as long as US sanctions remain.

At the end of the first day’s meeting, the negotiating parties agreed to hold a working group meeting to abolish the ban on Tuesday.

In turn, Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, confirmed that the seventh round of negotiations on reviving the nuclear agreement with Iran had begun successfully.

Ulyanov said in his account on Twitter that the first meeting of the joint committee of the comprehensive plan of action has ended and that the participants agreed to take immediate steps later in this round, which started successfully enough.

Ulyanov added that Iran showed some flexibility on a number of important issues during the talks, and agreed on a path that includes its return to commitment to the basic elements of the nuclear agreement, indicating that reviving the agreement will not be easy because the differences between Iran and the Western parties are very wide.

Ulyanov expressed Russia's reservations about the US statements about the existence of a "Plan B" in the Vienna talks.

For his part, the head of the European Union delegation to the negotiations, Enrique Mora, said that he "feels optimism after the first talks in Vienna with the Iranian negotiators, who showed a desire to participate seriously.

Mora told reporters that Iran is sticking to its demand to lift all embargoes, but there is no specific timetable for the process.

Nuclear negotiations began in Vienna last April with the aim of returning the United States to the agreement and lifting American sanctions on Tehran in exchange for Iran's return to implementing its obligations under the agreement.

Over the past six rounds, Iran has shown seriousness to reach satisfactory results and stressed many points, the most important of which is the lifting of all US sanctions while obtaining US guarantees and pledges not to renege later on what will be agreed upon and refusing to link the agreement to any negotiations on other files related to its defense and regional policies.

It is noteworthy that the nuclear agreement was reached on July 14, 2015 in Vienna after arduous negotiations that lasted for several years between Iran and the Five Plus One Group, but former US President Donald Trump announced on May 8, 2018, to withdraw from the agreement and return to the policy of imposing sanctions On Iran, while the rest of the signatories stressed the need for the agreement to be preserved and adhered to, given the international need it represents.
