The Central Police Unit today (Monday) requested an extension of the detention of Edward Kachura, the suspect in the murder of the girl Yael-Little Melnik, in order to formulate a firm position in his case.
This is the fourteenth time that the police have sought to extend the detention.
His defense attorney will petition for his immediate release.
The State Attorney's Office has not yet been convinced that Kachura murdered Melnik, with the Haifa District Attorney's Office divided over the Central Coast District Unit, which is investigating the case.
The prosecutor's office is still hesitant to commit to a prosecutor's statement against Kachura for murder, even after the opinion of the doctors of the National Institute of Forensic Medicine in Abu Kabir.

Inside, the family's fear grows that Kachura will not be charged with murder, and they are anxious that he will be released. The family's lawyers were summoned this morning to a meeting with the plaintiff.
"The prosecution is dragging its feet, hoping the court will release the defendant and keep the shame away from her," members of the Melnik family said angrily. "The prosecution has forgotten its role, it is afraid to face a man who all indications are that he murdered our Little. We demanded an indictment for murder and now the prosecution is paving the way for his freedom. This incident indicates the loss of a moral compass of the law enforcement system. It is unbelievable that the prosecution is incapable "To prosecute a dangerous criminal and bring to justice the person who took the life of a 17-year-old girl. Little Yael's blood screams from the ground. We will not stop for a moment, we will fight with all our might so that the man who murdered our little Yael will be imprisoned for life."
Melnik's body was found in early October when she was partially buried in the ground at a construction site in Kiryat Motzkin.
The girl moved to Carmia boarding school just two days before her absence.
The suspect in the affair, 47-year-old Kachura, was employed at the Ma'ale Carmel government hospital in Tirat Carmel.
