The director of his social networking giant will announce that "it is time for the company to say goodbye to its founding generation" • The background for his retirement is the opposition of some of the shareholders in the company to his leadership

Twitter social network CEO Jack Dorsey announced today (Monday) that he is leaving his position immediately. Rose by two per cent.

"I was shocked to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founding generation," Dorsey said in a brief statement in which he added no further reason for his surprise resignation.

Dorsey also announced that Agerwell is the replacement he has been choosing "for some time, given the amount of knowledge he has about the company's operations and his understanding of its needs."

Dorsey, 45, serves as CEO of Twitter and Digital Payments Square. He will remain a member of Twitter's board until the contract he signed expires in 2022, the company said. A former Google executive will resign.

The new CEO, Agarwell, will have to meet tough targets set by the company. A statement from the company earlier this year stated that the company aims to reach 315 million active and exposed users by the end of 2023, which will allow it to double its annual profits.

Dorsey survived a dismissal last year after Elliott Manjman, a shareholder in Twitter, asked to be fired and replaced.

The owner of the giant management company, billionaire Paul Singer, has publicly wondered whether it makes sense for Dorsey to run two public companies together.

Singer also called on Dorset to resign voluntarily.
