The General Authority for Al-Ghab Management and Development in Hama Governorate has managed to raise the productivity of agricultural lands located in the southern Tar Al-Ula irrigation network from 27 thousand tons of wheat to 81 thousand tons after the completion of intensive engineering maintenance work on the water network.
Engineer Aufa Wassouf, director general of the authority, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the network includes a main channel with a length of 41 km, transmission channels with a length of 31 km and subsidiary channels with a length of 206 km, in addition to earth drains with a length of 195 km, indicating that this network irrigates an area of about 15,000 hectares of land. The agricultural service serving 25 villages located south of the Orontes River in the Tar Al-Ula Al-Asharnah area.
Wassouf indicated that the maintenance work that is carried out periodically includes isolating the main irrigation channels, carriers, drains, and watering cans to secure irrigation water for farmers, implementing concrete cladding for channels in different locations, maintaining iron works (gates and regulators), in addition to maintaining sockets and ferries, rehabilitating roads and channels accompanying channels and drains, and supporting channels. in different locations.
