Attia: We must all depoliticize the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons

Syria's permanent representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Ambassador Milad Attia, affirmed that the countries that politicize the Syrian chemical file, justify aggression after aggression against the Syrian people, support terrorism, occupy Syrian territory and steal oil, must be held accountable for their crimes.

In response to the slanders made by Washington and its allies representatives against Syria during the work of the twenty-sixth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague, Attia said: Syria has repeatedly affirmed its firm position rejecting and condemning the use of chemical weapons by anyone at any time, place and under Any circumstances and called for cooperation with it in the face of terrorism and crimes of killing and destruction committed by terrorists in implementation of the plans of some well-known countries in the implementation of plays on the use of chemical weapons to accuse the Syrian government of.

He added: With regard to the decision of the fourth special session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Organization, the United States and some Western countries sought to issue this decision after the Security Council thwarted the extension of the joint investigation mechanism due to its lack of professionalism and impartiality. A mandate that is not stipulated in the agreement, and that goes beyond the mandate and powers of the organization, and takes the powers of the Security Council, the only international body concerned with maintaining international peace and security, in a dangerous precedent in the history of the organization, international law and international relations.

Attia explained that Syria, along with many countries, considered this team to be illegitimate and would not deal with it and would reject everything that was issued or issued by it in the future. He said, “After this team was formed, it began to carry out its assigned roles, so it issued a report on April 8, 2020 that included false conclusions based on information. False and fabricated with the aim of falsifying facts and accusing the Syrian government of using toxic chemicals in incidents that occurred in the town of Al-Lataminah in 2017, noting that Syria refuted this fabricated report in a scientific, technical, legal study, as well as the Russian Federation. This study was ignored by the organization and the countries that claim their keenness to state Truth.

Attia added: To complete the aggressive plan against Syria, two decisions were passed by the United States of America and its allies through the decision-making mechanisms of the organization, which adopted the conclusions contained in the report of the illegal (investigation and identification team) on the incidents of Al-Lataminah, imposing unrealistic and impossible requirements on Syria Within artificial time frames, its goal is to show Syria as a state that is not committed to the provisions of the agreement.

Attia explained that in order to complement its subjective and unprofessional approach and with instructions from the United States of America and its allies, the Investigation and Identification Team issued another report in April 2021 on the Saraqib incident on February 4, 2018, and Syria submitted to the organization a study that included legal, scientific and technical aspects in which the focus was on technical and scientific errors. The study showed documented images and scientific analysis in accordance with the latest internationally approved scientific methods and mechanisms, the size of the legal violations committed by this team and its departure from professionalism and integrity and the requirements of fair and impartial investigations, especially those stipulated in the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, knowing that this team He did not visit Saraqib and collected evidence from representatives of the White Helmets.

Attia criticized what the Fact-Finding Mission is doing, which failed more than one test, and the evidence for this is clear to all parties. Its bias and unprofessionalism has been proven in more than one report it issued, especially the 2018 Douma incident report, calling on the embargo organization not to ignore this study as usual.

Attia stressed that Syria believes that, after all these professional scandals, it has become unacceptable to remain silent about the continuation of the (fact-finding mission) to work according to the wrong working methods, and calls on the technical secretariat of the organization to complete the investigations conducted by the (fact-finding mission) into the accidents, because many years have passed without to finish it.

In response to the Western countries that demanded accountability for the alleged users of chemical weapons in Syria, Attia stressed that the one who should be held accountable is the one who politicizes the Syrian chemical file and justifies aggression after aggression against the Syrian people and slanders Syria that it still possesses chemical weapons or prohibited chemical activities and that it used chemical weapons It supports terrorism, which has killed thousands of Syrians, occupies Syrian land, steals oil and grain, and starves the Syrian people.

He said: The United States of America, some Western countries, Turkey and other countries involved in the killing of Syrian terrorists have turned into weapons and spears in the hearts of innocent Syrians, and those who should be held accountable are the real ones responsible for supporting, financing and arming terrorists and facilitating their entry into Syrian territory.

He added: Officials in some countries known to you who have precisely engineered these terrorists in their laboratories in the United States of America, France, Britain, Germany, Turkey and others are designing a war of another kind in the corridors of this organization. We all have the responsibility to keep it away from the American and Western politicization. Do not enter this organization into a trap that will cause its failure later. It is not too late for us to restore confidence in the organization yet.

The Conference of the States Parties began its work yesterday at the headquarters of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague, with the participation of about 193 countries, including Syria, and will continue until next Friday.
