The Child Fatal Case Review Committee released its fifth report on the prevention of child fatalities last Tuesday (November 23), which reviewed 259 child fatalities in the three years from 2016 to 2018.

In addition to 159 deaths due to nature, suicides accounted for nearly 60% of the 100 deaths due to unnatural factors.

There were 59 suicide cases in the past three years, which more than doubled from the previous period, that is, from 2013 to 2015. The situation is worrying.

Recalling that the number of child suicides in Hong Kong began to decline from the peak of 21 cases in 2010, it rose sharply again to 21 cases in 2016, and reached a high level in 2017. A total of 24 children died by suicide that year. It is also the past 10 cases. The highest year, which means that the problem of schoolchildren’s suicide has never been solved...
