A few days after the Peruvian Congress presented a vacancy motion against him for alleged "moral incapacity", the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, spoke in a message from the Government Palace.

"Since my government began, a minority of political parties and economic groups did not accept the electoral result and have always sought to undermine the popular will; they never accepted that a peasant, a teacher, would lead the nation and promote structural changes in the country." Castillo said.

"The objective is to evacuate the president without any support and with absolute irresponsibility for the consequences that these undemocratic acts have for the population," he added.

Last Thursday, Parliament presented a motion seeking to remove Castillo, who assumed the presidency on July 28, just four months ago, from office.

The document has the signature of 29 legislators from the opposition groups of Fuerza Popular, Avanza País and Renovación Popular.

Why the vacancy motion against Castillo?

"He is a dangerous person for democracy who, if he is not vacated, will affect all Peruvians as he has been doing with those who live in extreme poverty", indicates the motion that is based on 7 points.

One of them is the alleged "illegal use of public funds" in the 2021 campaign of Peru Libre, the party that led Castillo to the presidency.

The president also referred to a complaint made this Sunday by the Cuarto Poder program, which states that public officials continue to attend the house that the president used as a meeting place during the electoral campaign and from which he dispatched the first days as president.

One of the people who visited this place was the one who advised one of the companies that won a tender with the state in October, according to the newspaper El Comercio.

"To tarnish my honor and reputation, they have sought to associate the people's government with acts of corruption," Castillo said.

"Faced with this, I firmly condemn and dissociate myself from any act of corruption, that is why any person who betrays my trust must be investigated and sanctioned in an exemplary manner by the Justice. I want to specify that official meetings are only held in the Government Palace, I have only received visits of a personal nature at my home, therefore, I strongly reject having had any kind of participation in irregular acts ".

Reactions

On this issue, the Ombudsman's Office spoke through its Twitter account and demanded the president "to explain facts that would reveal the existence of a parallel presidential office."

For its part, the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic began an investigation into the meetings held in the house that Castillo used as a center of operations during the campaign, as well as the "contracts and / or awards" that the State carried out in the past month. October.
