The Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf, discussed with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Rola Dashti, ways to activate cooperation with the organization in the fields of environmental statistics, climate change, renewable energies and enhancing capacities in the field of studies and sustainable development plans.
Minister Makhlouf stressed during the meeting the need to develop an action plan that includes areas of cooperation to enhance the capacities of administrative units in the field of local planning, follow-up on the implementation of sustainable development indicators, benefit from non-traditional energies, and enable farmers, livestock breeders and the local community to benefit from waste in bioenergy production.
For her part, Dashti indicated the organization's desire to cooperate in the aforementioned fields, which are currently under discussion, in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development.
The two sides agreed to set up a mechanism and a joint action plan and launch it as soon as possible.
