Ecuador suspends face-to-face classes due to omicron threat

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Education announced on Tuesday that together with the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) they have decided to suspend the start of face-to-face school activities throughout the country due to the threat of the new variant of the coronavirus known as omicron.

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Education announced on Tuesday that together with the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) they have decided to suspend the start of face-to-face school activities throughout the country due to the threat of the new known variant of the coronavirus like omicron.

The modification of the school schedule contemplates that the entrance to the classrooms will be for February 7, 2022 for students in the Sierra-Amazonía area and on May 3 for Costa-Galapagos.

Some technical and rural high schools, who were already attending face-to-face classes, will remain under the same scheme.

This Monday, Ecuador announced that all travelers from South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Eswatini, Mozambique and Egypt are prohibited from entering the country as one of the measures against the advance of the omicron variant of the coronavirus.
