Jewish journalist Eric Zamor announced today (Tuesday) that he is running for president of France, in order to "save" the country.
The far-right media man has come down in recent weeks in polls.
"It's time to change and save France," Zamor announced in a YouTube video.
"That's why I decided to run for president."
Even before the official announcement, Zamor was mentioned as a prominent candidate in the elections to be held in the spring of next year, in which the current president Emanuel Macron is also expected to run for a second term.
Macron has not yet officially announced this, and he is expected to do so earlier this year.
Some polls suggested a duel between the two in the decisive second round of the presidency, but Zamor has recently weakened in favor of his far-right rival, Marine Le Pen.

Zamor, 63, is also a cause for concern among sections of the Jewish community due to his harsh remarks against immigrants.
He even argued that if Israel has nuclear weapons, there is no reason why Iran should not.
On Saturday he was documented doing a triple finger to a passerby in Marseille, in response to making a similar gesture to him, and on Sunday a demonstration against him is planned to take place in Paris during his first official campaign event.
