Transport Minister Michaeli: It's time to release the blasts and traffic jams (Photo: GPO)

Yesterday (Monday), the Minister of Transportation, Merav Michaeli, submitted an amendment to the Ministry of Justice to the Traffic Ordinances, the purpose of which is to enable the public to order public transportation services from private companies on weekends without state subsidies.

That is, these are unofficial shuttles and thus there is a possibility of bypassing the political minefield of public transportation on Shabbat with authority and authority.

The move will be made through individual payment of the passenger and without state subsidy.

The intention is without a state subsidy as official public transportation currently receives.

That is, these are unofficial shuttles.

How will it work?

According to the amendment, passengers will be able to pre-book a public vehicle used or intended to be used by at least eight passengers, not including the driver, by one or more entities - and payment will be possible from one or more entities, and pre-booking using technology without state subsidy.

This is in contrast to the current situation, where organized transportation is paid for in advance by the customer.

Here it will be possible to pay individually - each passenger individually for the trip.

The new regulations have two meanings: one in the business field and the other in the employment field.

In the absence of the need for a license required for a public transportation company or in the definition of one such, the market is open to shuttle companies and developers to operate flexible public transportation services.

These services will compete with public transportation in areas where there is a demand for such transportation but there is no good enough answer.

An example of this is reinforcements in the morning near universities, near train stations and more.

However, in contrast to the subsidy of regular public transportation, which allows favorable prices for the consumer, these will have a hard time offering attractive enough prices.

Will you be able to bypass the political minefield?

Another angle that this installation can serve and even promote significantly is the whole issue of shuttles to workplaces.

Today, those who are not defined as a public transport company can not charge directly from each passenger, but only in a centralized manner from the customer of the service.

But by changing the installation, a workplace, or a number of companies located in the vicinity, could allow their employees to pay independently for the use of the shuttle.

These regulations will make it possible to circumvent the expected objections to the violation of the status quo of public transportation on Saturday because it is not legislation, but sub-regulations that are not approved by the Knesset.

Regulations will be approved by the relevant committee, in this case, it is expected to be the Economics Committee.

Taxi organizations are also likely to have a say in the matter.
