The Public Ministry of Guatemala reported this Tuesday that a court issued an arrest warrant against the former head of the Special Prosecutor's Office against Impunity, Juan Francisco Sandoval.
In a statement published on their Twitter account, they pointed out that in follow-up to a complaint filed, according to investigations "it has been possible to establish the signing of effective collaborator agreements in fraud of the law, possibly to generate impunity and undermine the resources of the State of Guatemala" .
CNN is contacting Sandoval for his position on the matter.
The Public Ministry added that the arrest warrant was issued by the Fourth Pluri-personal Court of Criminal First Instance, Drug Trafficking and Crimes against the Environment of the department of Guatemala for the possible commission of the crimes of “abuse of authority, usurpation of powers, fraud and conspiracy".
According to the Public Ministry, the case is under judicial reservation so it did not offer more details.
"The Public Ministry, in accordance with its legal and constitutional mandate, must address any complaint, with the guarantee of an objective and impartial investigation, always ensuring strict compliance with the law," the statement concluded.
This is the second arrest warrant that the Guatemalan justice has turned against him.
After the first was known in September for the alleged crimes of breach of duties and obstruction of criminal action, Sandoval, who is in the United States, had said in a message on Twitter that "the Attorney General prefers to persecute those of us who have dedicated all our energy and career to investigate the truth and build Justice.
