"In the coming days we will have more accurate information about the effectiveness of the vaccine against the omicron - but already now there is room for optimism, and there are initial indications that whoever is vaccinated vigorously - in the booster, will also be protected from this variant."  

"The vaccine is really critical right now," Horowitz added.

"Anyone who encounters the variant that is exposed without a vaccine will put themselves at unnecessary risk. The suspension of tourism to Israel is temporary, for 14 days. We will not extend it automatically, nor beyond the short time required."

The Minister of Health also updated that "Israel intends to donate a very significant amount of vaccine doses to African countries. This is a global epidemic and we must deal with this crisis from a global perspective."
