How To Identify And Treat Mold Problems In Winter - The Ideal Solution | Israel today

When it is rainy and cold outside, close all the windows. But when there is no ventilation opening, the result is mold on the walls • So what do you do? Do not clean, destroy

The winter season is the season when cyclamen bloom in the fields and the mold blooms at home.

Why in the winter?

Because mold thrives in humid conditions (like in the bathroom and laundry room), and when you close all the windows so that rain and wind do not penetrate the house - you allow the mold to grow and thrive.

So a moment before you look for paints and whitewashes and start a process of treating the mold on the wall - here are some things you should know about the phenomenon, which is estimated to belong to 20 percent of homes in Israel.

What color?

If the stain on your wall is orange-yellow and the paint is peeling around it - it is most likely caused by water penetration or a pipe explosion. In this case it is not enough to order a paint that will paint the surface. A sealing contractor or plumber should be hired first who will solve the problem once and for all.

Do not try to hide the mold by using plaster or wood wall cladding. Not only will it not solve the problem, it will make it worse. The mold manages to penetrate any cladding and if not destroyed it destroys everything that happens in its path.

Another action that does more harm than good is sanding the wall or ceiling on which mold has developed.

This action - which even professionals err on - causes mold to fly around the room and cling to furniture and light fixtures.

Therefore before treating mold in the wall should cover the light fixtures, sockets and furniture.

Then take a rag and dip it in the bleach.

Rub lightly.

If some of the paint has peeled off, remove it carefully.

Then apply Bondrol (a binder that will allow good adhesion of the paint), and apply anti-mold paint over it.

There are cases where no matter what action you take the mold will come back again and again.

The reason is probably that it is a poor insulation of the building.

In such a case the House Committee must be involved and the entire façade re-insulated.

This is an expensive but necessary solution to prevent suffering from all the neighbors.

After treating mold, here are three things that are important to keep in mind so that mold does not return: Ventilate the house daily - especially in the bathroom and laundry room;

Laundry - hang on the balcony and not inside the house (if there is such an option) and adjust the exhaust pipe of the dryer outside the house;

Furniture - Do not attach furniture to the wall because it prevents good exchange of air near the wall.
