India announced its readiness to urgently send more vaccines against the Corona virus to Africa to help combat the Omicron mutant, after China pledged to send another billion doses to the African continent.
"The Government of India is ready to support the affected countries in Africa to deal with the mutant Omicron, including by providing supplies of locally made vaccines," the Indian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, adding that the provision of supplies will be through the World Health Organization's Kovacs mechanism or bilaterally. .
And the Indian Foreign Ministry said that it had agreed to all Kovacs' requests to provide supplies of AstraZeneca vaccine to countries such as Malawi, Ethiopia, Zambia, Guinea and Lesotho, in addition to delivering doses of locally made Kovaccin vaccine to Botswana.
India indicated that it has provided more than 25 million doses of locally manufactured vaccines to 41 African countries, mostly through the Kovacs Global Vaccine Distribution Initiative.
India and China have close relations with many African countries.
