An Egged bus was pelted with stones last night (Tuesday) while making its way to Eilat. The company said that "apparently these are young Bedouin rioters who have recently frequently attacked Egged's buses on the roads of the northern Negev on a nationalist background out of, apparently, Egged's bus perception as a symbol of the Zionist regime." The bus, line 790, made its way to Eilat and was attacked around 2:00 at night on Road 25. The company said that the driver had lodged a complaint with the police.

"The shameful phenomenon has intensified very recently and often encodes vulnerability among public transport users as well, and not just severe damage to property that disrupts the regular operation of public transport throughout the Negev," added Egged spokesman Ron Ratner. According to the company, "Recently, there have been dozens of cases of aggression and stone-throwing on buses in general and Egged in particular, incidents that have sometimes affected not only property but unfortunately also bus passengers."

The Organization of Bus Drivers in Israel from the Histadrut stated in response to the stone-throwing that: "Only recognizing bus drivers as public employees can save their lives and the lives of passengers and cause drivers and passengers to be behind bars. Law enforcement agencies must act accordingly. "Many and only thanks to the resourcefulness of the driver a heavy disaster was avoided. The buses are a symbol and therefore attack them and the drivers. The terror against the drivers and the buses must be stopped."
