The name of the Syrian musician Muhammad Hanana was associated with musical research and specialized translations in this important field, as he worked to enrich the Syrian and Arabic library with many books and compositions that constituted a reference in academic music research.

In appreciation of his tireless and continuous work, he was honored by the Ministry of Culture on the 63rd anniversary of its founding as a musician and researcher.

Hanana was one of the first members of the first batch of students at the Arab Institute of Music “Salhi Al Wadi Now” when it was founded in 1961 and graduated from it in 1968 with the specialization of playing two of the most difficult and influential instruments, the violin and viola. He was one of the elite players who formed the 1993 National Symphony Orchestra.

Hanana, who worked in oriental music groups, contributed to the founding of the Higher Institute of Music. Between 1993 and 2002, he served as editor-in-chief of the quarterly Al-Hayat Musical magazine, which deals with local and international music affairs. In 2002, he worked as its editor-in-chief until 2013, seeking to develop this publication in terms of form and content.

With regard to the issuance of specialized music books, we stop at his book “The Dictionary of Western Music”, which included information about the famous musicians, its terminology and its most important works.

He also published a book, "The Dictionary of Opera", which contained a large number of operas and operettas and biographies of great authors and some operatic terms until this book constituted a basic reference for researchers to use in knowing the world of operas. A book entitled "Fragments in Music" was also published for him.

In the field of translation, researcher Hanna transferred to Arabic many specialized books, including “The Unlimited Diversity of Music” and “One of the Stories of the Most Famous Operas,” which talks about the influences that led the emergence of opera art in Italy and were rooted in ancient times, and “From the Stories of Ballet” and reviews the development of ballet art. From the 16th century in the French and Italian courts until the stage of ballet art moving away from the influences of the court in the late 18th century and the book “The Guide to Orchestral Works”.

Among the translations of Hanna in the field of literature are the novel “Simon de Beauvoir and Jean Paul Sartre face to face” and in the field of studies he presented “For You”, “Memoirs of Dmitriy Shostakovich” and “The Private Life of Celebrities”.

Hanana's musical research was characterized by a wealth of information, erudition, and ability to link and analyze, employing his rich readings, great experience, and extensive relations with senior Syrian musicians to delve into this art, simplify it, and reveal its hidden secrets for those interested and knowledgeable.
