Opinion | Liability for generations: to live in the Land of Israel Israel today

2021-11-30T21:30:11.572Z

Hebron or Sderot, Kiryat Arba, Ma'ale Adumim or Gush Etzion - every place and its risks, every place and its pride • The entire Zionist enterprise is based on a return to the land of our ancestors

It is probable that families living in Kiryat Arba do not understand how it is possible to raise children in Hebron.

Their choice to live in the local council and not in the ancestral city stemmed from this fear, not to mention fear, that something would happen to their children.

There are families in Gush Etzion who do not understand how it is possible to raise children in Kiryat Arba.

The proximity to so many hostile Arabs, in Hebron itself and in the nearby villages, would keep sleep out of their eyes and not give them a moment of peace, of a sense of security.

There are families in Ma'ale Adumim who really respect the choice of Gush Etzion residents to live where they chose, but in life they will not even consider living there.

The proximity to the Gush Etzion junction, the focus of so many terrorist attacks, would drive them crazy.

I'm sure there are some who secretly think that maybe it's not responsible for children standing at this junction on the way to or from school.

There are residents in Sderot who simply can not understand how it is possible to raise children in the territories.

Just the thought of crossing a barrier on the way to work or school sends them shivering and fearful.

The residence is so close to so many Palestinians - inconceivable to them.

There are residents of New Jersey who outwardly say they are lucky to have the State of Israel and Jews living in it, but at heart they simply do not understand how people like them, some even their acquaintances who "made aliyah," live in the burning Middle East.

How they sleep at night when at any moment a terrorist can stab them or their children.

Not to mention the immediate and constant risk that their home will be hit by a direct missile hit from Gaza.

What irresponsibility.

There are residents in Sderot who find it utterly delusional to raise children in New Jersey.

For what have we established a state if not to protect ourselves?

How can one live in this fear that at any moment anti-Semitism can raise one's head, as in Rome, as in Paris, as in America, and some psychopath who saw something in a tic-tac-toe will start firing inside a synagogue?

In Ma'ale Adumim, the people of Sderot are highly respected for their stand in front of the missiles in Gaza.

They, on the other hand, have a different task: their Zionism is one that preserves Israel, all of Israel, in the life of a normal city, blurring the archaic green line.

The residents of Gush Etzion have a unique pride.

They live in a somewhat dangerous place, that's true, but life there is normal, and good, and they are fulfilling their dream: to return to the Land of Israel and settle it.

True, it is bought in agony, but they will do anything to alleviate the anguish and increase the joy.

The people of Kiryat Arba Hagiborim are willing to sacrifice a lot so that the entire area, and Hebron in particular, will remain in Jewish hands.

In the eyes of many of them, the entire Zionist enterprise is based on a return to the land of our ancestors, including, of course, the city of the ancestors.

What is it worth otherwise?

What, we came from New Jersey to live in Raanana?

The people of Hebron know that without Hebron there is no Raanana.

And there is a publisher of a newspaper who says that it is irresponsible to raise children in Hebron. There may be justice in his words, but it is momentary, point-by-point, selfish justice.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
