Is Sony working on a new gaming accessory from the PlayStation family, which will interface with smartphones?
The answer is yes, but it is still too early to tell.
The company has registered a patent for a kind of controller, which is very reminiscent of the PlayStation 4 controller, with space for assembling a smartphone.
The buttons and knobs, as seen in the image presented in the patent application, are identical to the configuration of the old and familiar PlayStation controllers, and it has even been reported that the new product will be equipped with motion sensors.
It should be noted that PlayStation controllers are already able to interface to smartphones today by connecting Bluetooth, but this is the first time that Sony, which announced earlier this year its desire to integrate in the field of mobile games, is working on a physical mobile gaming accessory.

As you may recall, Sony completely abandoned the portable console scene after ceasing to produce the PlayStation Vita about two years ago, which was launched in late 2011 and is considered high quality and worthy, but failed to compete with the advanced smartphones released in the last decade.
The PlayLink project, which was launched in 2017 and connected several PlayStation 4 games to special mobile apps, also did not succeed.
Now all that remains is to wait for the official announcement of the intriguing accessory.
It is not unlikely that we will receive information about it in the coming months, as Sony plans to launch in early 2022, for Apple and Android only, Wipeout Rush - a spin-off for the beloved future racing game series that may, just maybe, support the new gadget.
