The Syrian-Iranian Joint Commercial Committee held its meeting headed by the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, and the Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, Sayed Reza Fatemi Amin, at the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.
During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of the Iranian products exhibition, which kicked off yesterday in the exhibition city in Damascus, as it is a turning point in the trade and investment relations between the two countries.
The meeting dealt with several axes that lead to the development of trade cooperation, including exchanging what Syria needs for materials that it can export and that Iran needs.
Minister Al-Khalil pointed out the importance of developing investment activity as well as trade between the two countries by reviewing the customs duties currently in force, reducing the number of items included in the negative list of the previously signed free trade agreement, and reducing the added value in calculating the origin from 50 to 40 percent.
In turn, the Iranian minister affirmed that Syria and Iran have cultural, social and commercial relations, pointing out that there are many joint actions that lead to activating bilateral trade between the two countries.
During the meeting, it was agreed to form a working group in both countries to follow up and revitalize commercial matters.
The meeting was attended by the Iranian delegation consisting of 70 people from the public and private sectors, members of the Iranian Shura Council, the Chairman of the Industrial Committee and the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Mines of Iran.
