Today, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, participated in the 45th ministerial meeting of the Group of 77 and China, which was held virtually in New York.

In a statement during the session, Dr. Miqdad stressed that Syria will face with full force the unjust terrorist and economic war that was imposed on it and all forms of American, Turkish and Israeli military and economic terrorism and aggression, and their violations of the provisions of international law, the Charter of the United Nations and related agreements.

Miqdad stressed that Syria is determined to restore all its occupied lands and exercise its constitutional right to protect its citizens and preserve its land by all legitimate means guaranteed by international law, explaining the importance of solidarity and cooperation within the Group of 77 and China for the benefit of our countries. Its efforts for reconstruction and return to the path of development and prosperity.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, also made a statement in which he stressed the importance of working to achieve the sustainable development goals, especially after the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic and its social and economic effects, calling on member states to cooperate in order to secure vaccines in all countries.

The meetings were chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guinea in his capacity as Chair of the Group of 77 and China in New York for this year.

The ministers participating in the meeting issued a ministerial declaration that included a call for the immediate and complete withdrawal of (Israel), the occupying power, from the occupied Arab territories, including the occupied Syrian Golan, and condemnation of decisions and actions that changed its demographic character and considering them null and void and without legal effect and must be rescinded in compliance with Security Council resolutions and demand (Israel) to stop its violations of international law that undermine the ability of our peoples to pursue sustainable development.

They also called for rejecting the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, which undermine its efforts to achieve its right to development and prosperity, and whose intensity is compounded by the catastrophic effects of the Corona pandemic and the challenges resulting from it in all areas of life, especially economic, social and health, stressing the need to lift these measures immediately.
