(CNN Business) -

Alec Baldwin gave ABC News his first formal interview since firing a prop firearm that killed one crew member and wounded another on the set of "Rust."

The interview was conducted by host George Stephanopoulos and took place on Tuesday, a person familiar with the matter told CNN Business.

Spokesmen for Baldwin did not respond to CNN Business' request for comment.

An ABC News spokesperson also did not respond to requests for comment.

The reunion comes more than a month after the death of 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico set.

Director Joel Souza was also injured in the October 21 shooting.

Baldwin said in a first statement that he had "no words to convey" his "shock and sadness over the tragic accident."

"My heart is broken for her husband, her son and everyone who knew and loved Halyna," Baldwin said at the time.

Baldwin's interview with Stephanopoulos marks the first time the actor has spoken at length about the incident.

In addition to her opening statement, she made comments to the paparazzi that appeared in a video posted on the TMZ website.

A number of questions related to the incident have yet to be answered.

The most important is how the ammunition ended up in the firearm delivered to Baldwin.

The incident, which remains under investigation, has led to renewed calls to improve security practices on sets with regard to the use of weapons.

Baldwin called for a police presence on set to help film and television productions control the safe use of weapons.

"All film and television sets where weapons are used, whether fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically oversee gun safety," Baldwin tweeted. earlier this month.
